Watch Sir Paul McCartney Teach You How to Make Mashed Potatoes in 1998 Video

Music NewsWeston PaganoComment

Paul McCartney is a talented man. He can play bass and sing and write and compose and... make mashed potatoes.

Filmed for what was his first broadcasted appearance following his wife Linda's death from breast cancer in 1998, Sir Paul treated fans to a tutorial on how to cook the traditional dish per his late partner and bandmate's recipe.

This cheeky little glimpse of a legendary Beatle doing something so pedestrian, from the talking oven mitt to the playful health tips, is as endearing as it is informative, even if it is a bit nerve-wracking to see such magical fingers to close to a knife blade.

So whether you're an expert chef or a first-timer, sit back, take notes, and enjoy. Maybe someday we'll get instructions for "Honey Pie" or "Savoy Truffle" next.

Watch Killer Mike's Fiery Opening for Bernie Sanders' Atlanta Rally

Music NewsWeston PaganoComment

It seems Big Boi is not the only Atlanta rapper chopping it up with presidential candidate Bernie Sanders these days. Run the Jewels' Killer Mike played the role of the politician's dining companion and hype man in the Georgia capital yesterday, leading to chicken at Busy Bee and an opening speech that was, well, straight fire.

The photo of the dynamic duo indulging in some southern soul food is especially intriguing considering Sanders is around six feet tall and is still dwarfed by the rapper.

Killer Mike, who is an aspiring politician himself, cited Sanders' support of the Voting Rights Act and making education and healthcare American rights in his rousing endorsement of the senator which surely left Hotlanta "feeling the Bern."

"I have no time in my short 40 years on this Earth to relive the Reagan years. I have no time... to see us elect our own Margaret Thatcher," he bellowed before concluding, "In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that Senator Bernie Sanders is the right man to lead this country."

It's a little known fact that the Vermonter actually released a folk album available only on tape cassette back in the '80s, which begs the question, will we see a music collaboration next? In the meantime, we have this delightful photo of the pair combining to form the Run the Jewels hand gesture, which will undoubtedly be called a gang sign on Fox News in the morning.

Killer Mike, along with the other half of Run the Jewels, El-P, both featured on fellow ATLien Big Boi's recent Big Grams EP, which you can check out here.

Cage the Elephant Don't "Mess Around" on First 'Tell Me I'm Pretty' Single

Music News, New MusicWeston PaganoComment

Everyone's favorite crowd-surfing Kentuckians have returned with "Mess Around," the first single from forthcoming record and Melophobia follow-up, Tell Me I'm Pretty, which is due out December 18 via RCA.

Launching off with a fuzzy riff paired with an instantly infectious hook, "Mess Around" perfectly wraps up the band's dirtier feel in a tight 3 minute package, and is sure to masterfully continue their appeal on both sides of the alternative / mainstream border.

Produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, the track sounds heavily influenced by the blues rocker, particularly in the chorus, with Auerbach even contributing the guitar solo. According to an interview with Consequence of Sound, "Mess Around" was also inspired by OutKast's melodic deliveries.

The music video is a curious collage of French illusionist Georges Méliès's films, and you can watch it below.

Majical Cloudz Release New Music Video "Downtown," Announce Tour

New Music, Music NewsWeston PaganoComment

Following the music video for "Silver Car Crash," minimalist emoters Majical Cloudz have released a similarly DIY, black and white music video for the new second single from forthcoming sophomore album Are You Alone?, "Downtown."

The playful home video-esque production and the unusually optimistic nature of the track itself ("Is it really this fun when you're on my mind? / Is it really this cool to be in your life?") is in stark contrast to much of the Montreal duo's previous discography, though the gorgeous depth of synth and simple yet beyond powerful vocal deliveries that they've come to be known for are still there, if not even stronger than before.

Oh, and we finally get to see him blink, even if only briefly, around the 2:09 mark.

Are You Alone? comes out next Friday via Matador, and it can't come soon enough. Watch "Downtown" and check out the new tour dates below.

Athens Post-Punk Band Gláss Announce New Album 'Accent,' Share First Single

Music News, New MusicGraham von OehsenComment

Athens, GA post-punk group Gláss have shared the first single, “Glass(-accent)”, from their debut LP Accent due out via Post-Echo early next year. The track features dark, monotone vocals brought to life by skittering guitar and rapid-fire percussion and anchored by driving bass.

“And I’ll go where I’m not so cold,” speak-sings Aaron Burke, while chilly reverb bounces around beneath the mix, as if the song were being performed inside a metal box. Burke told Transverso,

The song is a feeling of being exposed. Being in an environment where you can’t control but act unnaturally. A place that is definitely more temperate than you are used to, and you had been so used to a place that is so much more comfortably chilling, and you had become so accustomed to getting used to it, that it I felt so naked not having to wrap up in warm clothing, that I just refused to. To the point where I was wearing tight jeans and a duffle coat in 100 degree weather. That was America to me. No friends, no local knowledge to back me up. No stories or experience to refer to. I felt transplanted from everything I knew when I moved to the states. I can’t help but write about that—my immediate emotions of living in the states. That pretty much sums up the topic of the record.

While Gláss have not set a date for the LP release, they will be playing a few dates in the Southeast over the next couple of months. Check out said dates and the track below.

10/22 - Greenville, SC @ Soundbox Tavern
11/14 - Athens, GA @ Flicker Theatre and Bar
12/17 - Athens GA @ Flicker Theatre and Bar

Big Boi + Phantogram Collab Big Grams Fall in the Sun With First Single

Music News, New MusicJulian AxelrodComment

While Atlanta rapper Big Boi and New York electronic duo Phantogram are strong artists in their own right, both seem to thrive on collaboration. After Phantogram contributed three of the standout tracks from Big Boi’s 2012 album Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors, the trio has reunited under the Big Grams moniker and announced the Big Grams EP, set to drop later this month. And while the group’s previous collaborations are enough to make this exciting news, first single “Fell In The Sun,” (which premiered on Beats Radio 1) suggests that this team-up has brought out the best in both parties.

The genius of “Fell In The Sun” lies in the interplay between these seemingly disparate artists, as Sarah Barthel’s exuberant hook mingles with Daddy Fat Sax’s playful verses over a warm, crackling beat from Josh Carter that sounds like Big Boi’s “Shine Blockas” playing on warped vinyl. On the bridge Barthel sings, “Dealt this dope from ATL to New York,” but what Big Grams has cooked up might be even more addictive.

Big Grams EP is out September 25th via Epic/Republic
